Quick answer

Spectrum's residential terms say to cancel by calling 855-757-7328 or by mailing written notice to Spectrum at 2 Digital Place, Floor 4, Simpsonville, SC 29681. You can also sign in at Spectrum.net to view your cancellation options. Spectrum bills monthly service in full without pro-ration, so cancel on or before the last day of your monthly period. Then return every modem, router, receiver and power supply. Spectrum may charge an unreturned equipment fee if you don't.

How to cancel Spectrum service

Spectrum's residential terms list two ways for a customer to end a recurring service. Spectrum's support page adds an online starting point.

  1. Call 855-757-7328. Spectrum's terms name this number for ending any recurring service.
  2. Or mail a hardcopy written notice of termination to Spectrum at 2 Digital Place, Floor 4, Simpsonville, SC 29681.
  3. Or sign in at Spectrum.net and open the change or cancel page. Spectrum says signing in lets you view your cancellation options.

Spectrum's terms say a cancellation you request takes effect after the date Spectrum receives it. Note the date and time you call, the name of the person you spoke with and any confirmation details.

Time it to your billing period

Spectrum service runs month to month. Its residential terms say you are responsible for the full monthly charge, without pro-ration, even if you end a monthly service before the period is over, subject to any limits under applicable law.

  • Unless you cancel on or before the last day of your current monthly period, Spectrum's terms say you are charged in full for the next period.
  • When service ends, the terms say you pay for services and equipment through the end of the current monthly period.
  • Usage charges, such as pay-per-view or per-minute charges, are billed based on what you used or ordered.
  • Spectrum also offers Seasonal status, which puts TV, Internet or Home Phone on hold for a monthly fee if you only live at the address part of the year. Spectrum says to contact Spectrum to check eligibility.

Return your Spectrum equipment

After you disconnect or downgrade, Spectrum says you are responsible for returning leased equipment, including modems, routers, receivers and any extra equipment it provided. Power supplies that came with your equipment must go back too.

  • Spectrum Store: bring the equipment to any store. Spectrum says you get a receipt listing the equipment and the return date.
  • The UPS Store: if there is no Spectrum Store nearby, tell the associate you are returning Spectrum equipment and keep your receipt. Spectrum's disconnect guide says to contact Spectrum before returning equipment through UPS.
  • Home shipment return kit: if you can't get to either store, contact Spectrum for a box with a return label and bubble wrap. Spectrum Apple TV and Spectrum Mobile devices can't go back in this kit, and Multi-AP WiFi Extenders need a specialized kit.
  • Spectrum Fiber: Spectrum says not to return the Spectrum Optical Network Unit (SONU) modem or its Universal Power Supply cord. They stay at the address.
  • Hawaii: Spectrum says customers in Hawaii have a different return process.

Spectrum says an unreturned equipment fee may be charged and added to your balance. Its terms say you are liable under Spectrum's schedule of charges if equipment is not back within 10 days of termination, whether it was lost, damaged or destroyed. Keep every return receipt.

Check your final Spectrum bill

  1. Spectrum says that after your disconnect request is processed, you get a final statement at the next billing cycle. It covers outstanding charges such as international calling or pay-per-view.
  2. You may get another statement if Spectrum still shows unreturned equipment on your account.
  3. Pay any remaining balance by signing in at Spectrum.net or in the My Spectrum App. Spectrum says you can also pay at a Spectrum Store while returning equipment.
  4. If equipment you returned still shows on your account, or you keep getting return reminders, Spectrum says to contact it. Your store or UPS receipt is your proof.
  5. Spectrum's terms say to dispute a billing statement charge by calling 1-855-757-7328 no later than 60 days after the statement's due date, or a later date if the law requires it.

What you lose access to after cancelling

  • Email: Spectrum says you can access your Spectrum email for 60 days after you disconnect Spectrum Internet. Back up contacts and messages before then.
  • Voicemail: access ends on the date your services are disconnected. Save or download messages first.
  • Your Spectrum account: you can sign in at Spectrum.net or the My Spectrum App for 60 days after disconnection.
  • Spectrum TV App: you can no longer sign in, or use your Spectrum username for TV channel apps, from the disconnect date.
  • Streaming services: Spectrum says you can keep them with your Spectrum login and pay for them on their own. If a streaming service was included in an offer, you pay its full retail price.

Cancelling only part of a bundle

Dropping TV but keeping internet counts as a downgrade, and Spectrum's terms say you must return equipment when you upgrade, downgrade or swap service. Check how the change affects your remaining price before you call.

  • Spectrum's terms say that if you end one part of a bundled package, Spectrum may move the remaining services to their undiscounted price.
  • Spectrum says Mobile customers who disconnect all their other Spectrum services no longer get a bundle discount on Spectrum Mobile.
  • If you close your Spectrum Mobile account, Spectrum says the remaining balance on any Device Payment Plan is due on your next statement.

Moving instead of cancelling

If you're moving, you may not need to cancel. Spectrum says to check availability at your new address first, then call 888-692-8635 to schedule the move and transfer service. If you need professional installation, Spectrum recommends requesting the transfer 2 to 3 weeks before you move.

  • Contact Spectrum before moving internet equipment. Spectrum says it needs to check whether the equipment works at the new location, and its terms say equipment must not be moved off the premises without Spectrum's authorization.
  • If Spectrum isn't available at your new address, Spectrum says it will tell you what to do with your old equipment.
  • Home Phone numbers can't be ported, and phone settings can't move, if the new address is in a different rate center. Voicemails don't transfer, so download them first.

Check for other recurring charges

Internet and TV bills often sit next to streaming services, phone plans and insurance on the same statement.
