Support
Help with the Compass+ app for iPhone and Android. Most questions are answered below; for anything else, email us and a person will reply.
How to reach us
Email support@askcompassplus.ai from the address on your Compass+ account. We reply within two business days. Tell us which phone you use and what you saw; never send a password, a bank login or a one-time code.
For a subscription charge, Apple or Google is the one that billed you; see Refunds.
What Compass+ does
Compass+ connects to your bank and card accounts, reads your transaction history, and finds recurring charges and subscriptions. Home shows what it found and what to do about it; Recurring lists every repeating charge with its monthly cost; Chat answers questions about your own spending, bills and paycheck.
It is read-only. Compass+ cannot move money, make payments, or cancel a subscription with a merchant for you. When it shows a cancellation route, you do the cancelling with the merchant.
Compass+ is information about your own data, not financial, tax, legal or investment advice, and chat answers come from an AI model that can be wrong. Check anything you plan to act on against your bank.
The free trial and the subscription
Compass+ Monthly is $19.99 a month, charged after a 7-day free trial for new subscribers. You start it from the paywall in the app and pay through your App Store or Google Play account; we never see your card.
The trial is available once per store account. The store decides eligibility, so someone who subscribed before may be charged straight away. The subscription renews each month until you cancel; cancelling during the trial means you are never charged.
If you are a Gerald Wallet member whose membership includes Compass+, you are billed through Gerald Wallet and the app unlocks on its own; it will not ask you to pay twice.
How to cancel on iPhone
Subscriptions bought on an iPhone are managed by Apple. Either route below works; cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid the next charge. You keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
- In Compass+: Profile → Subscription → Manage in App Store, which opens your App Store subscriptions.
- Or on your iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Compass+ → Cancel Subscription.
- Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription.
How to cancel on Android
Subscriptions bought on Android are managed by Google Play. Cancel before the renewal date to avoid the next charge; access continues to the end of the paid period.
- In Compass+: Profile → Subscription → Manage in Google Play, which opens the subscription in Google Play.
- Or in the Play Store app: tap your profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Compass+ → Cancel subscription.
- Uninstalling the app does not cancel the subscription.
Refunds
Apple and Google take the payment and hold the money, so refunds are requested from them under their policies. We cannot issue a refund for a store purchase ourselves.
- iPhone: go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple Account, choose the Compass+ charge and the reason.
- Android: use Google Play's refund request for the Compass+ purchase.
- If the store declines and you believe the charge is wrong, email us with the date and amount and we will look at it with you.
How bank connections work
You connect an account through Plaid, the service that links apps to banks. You sign in to your bank inside Plaid, not inside Compass+: your bank username and password never reach us. Plaid gives our bank connection service an encrypted credential that we use to read your account.
What we can see: the bank's name, each account's name, last digits, type and balance, and the transaction history — date, amount, merchant or description, and category. Compass+ asks for checking, savings and credit card accounts.
What we cannot do: see your bank login, move money, make a payment, open or close an account, or change anything at your bank.
To disconnect a bank: open the Connections tab, choose the bank, and tap Remove. New data stops at once and Plaid is told to drop the connection (unless your Gerald Wallet account also uses it). The transactions already imported stay in your account until you delete the account; see the Privacy Policy.
What happens to my data if I don't subscribe?
When you connect a bank before subscribing, Compass+ imports your history so the paywall can show what it found. If you have not started a trial or subscription within 7 days of connecting, our daily cleanup disconnects that bank from Compass+ and deletes the imported transactions, accounts and findings.
Your account, sign-in and any chats stay, so you can come back and subscribe later. A bank you connect after that waits until you subscribe before it is read.
How to delete my account
In the app: Profile → Delete account, or the Delete account link at the bottom of the paywall. If a store subscription is still active the app asks you to cancel it first, because deleting the account does not cancel it.
Without the app, or for the full list of what is deleted and when, see Delete your account.
Continue with Gerald
If you have a Gerald Wallet account, tap Continue with Gerald on the welcome screen and sign in with your Gerald email or phone number and password. The first time on a new phone, Gerald sends a code to the phone number on your Gerald account to verify the device.
Your Compass+ account is then linked to your Gerald account: your email and password are managed in Gerald Wallet, Compass+ is unlocked by your Gerald membership when it includes Compass+, and a bank already connected in Gerald Wallet shows up in Compass+ without connecting it again. Deleting your Compass+ account removes only the Compass+ side; your Gerald account is untouched.
If you have an email-and-password Compass+ account, it is not merged with a Gerald account.
A bank won't connect, or the data looks wrong
- Compass+ supports US banks and cards through Plaid. If your bank is not listed in Plaid, we cannot connect it yet.
- Some banks sign you in on their own website and send you back to the app. If you land in the browser instead, make sure Compass+ is installed and up to date, then try again.
- A connection marked “Action needed” means the bank wants you to sign in again; tap it in Connections and choose Reconnect. If the bank is shared with Gerald Wallet, reconnect it there.
- New transactions normally appear within about an hour of the bank reporting them. Banks post some charges a day or two late, and pending charges can change amount or merchant name when they settle.
- If your data has not refreshed for two days the app says so and shows the date it is from. Reconnecting the bank usually fixes it.
- If a recurring charge is wrong, mark it from the row's menu in Recurring; that corrects your list immediately.
- Chat is limited to 40 messages a day. If it says it could not answer, wait a moment and try again.
- Still stuck? Email us with your phone type, the bank, and what you saw. Never send a bank password or a code.
Security
- Everything between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit (HTTPS).
- Your bank login stays with Plaid and your bank. The credential Plaid gives us is stored encrypted with AWS Key Management Service, on a private network that cannot be reached from the internet, and only our bank connection service can use it.
- Compass+ is read-only: the connection cannot move money.
- Your password is stored only as a one-way hash. Repeated wrong passwords lock sign-in for 15 minutes. Sign-in tokens live in your phone's secure storage and are not included in backups.
- There are no ads and no cross-app tracking in Compass+, and we never sell your data.
