Quick answer

If Hulu bills you, go to your Account page in a computer or mobile browser, select Cancel under Your Subscription, choose Continue to Cancel if Hulu offers a pause, then select Cancel Subscription. Your Account page should then say your subscription will be canceled, and Hulu emails a confirmation. You keep access until the end of the billing cycle. If Apple, Amazon, Roku, Disney+ or another partner bills you, the steps depend on that partner, which is listed under Payment Information on your Account page.

How to cancel Hulu in your account

  1. Go to your Account page on Hulu.com in a computer or mobile browser.
  2. Select Cancel under Your Subscription.
  3. If Hulu offers to pause your subscription instead, select Continue to Cancel.
  4. Select Cancel Subscription.

Cancelling your Hulu subscription does not delete your Hulu account or the Disney account you use for other Disney products. Hulu says the same steps cancel a bundle plan that Hulu bills.

If a partner bills you for Hulu

Check Payment Information on your Hulu Account page to see who bills you. Hulu has separate cancellation steps for Amazon, Apple, Comcast Xfinity, Disney, Google, Kroger, HBO Max, Optimum, Roku, Spotify, T-Mobile and Verizon.

  • Apple: Hulu says to cancel through Apple, in Settings, then your name, then Subscriptions. You keep access until the end of the billing cycle. Hulu says new and returning subscribers can no longer pay through Apple, but existing Apple-billed members still do. Our guide to cancelling subscriptions on iPhone has more detail.
  • Amazon: Hulu says you can cancel on Hulu.com or through Amazon Pay.
  • Roku: Hulu says you can cancel on Hulu.com. Roku says that even when it processes the charge, Hulu manages the subscription, so cancel with Hulu.
  • Google: Hulu points Google-billed members to Google Play Help. Cancel in Google Play under subscriptions. Google says uninstalling the app does not cancel.
  • Disney: if Disney+ bills your bundle, cancel it from your Disney+ account page instead of Hulu.
  • Other partners: Hulu says people who pay through a third party may need to contact that billing partner directly.

Cancelling a Disney+ and Hulu bundle

  • Cancel the bundle with the company that bills it. Hulu-billed bundles are cancelled on your Hulu Account page. Disney-billed bundles are cancelled on your Disney+ account page. See how to cancel Disney+ for those steps.
  • If you already had a Disney+ or ESPN subscription when you signed up for a bundle through Hulu, Hulu says you keep being billed separately for it until you cancel it separately.
  • When you cancel a Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+ bundle, Hulu says your original Hulu, ESPN+ or third-party billed subscription continues at the then-current price unless you also cancel it.
  • When you cancel only the original subscription, the bundle continues. Any credit you received toward the bundle for ESPN+ ends.
  • If you signed up for the Disney+, Hulu, HBO Max bundle through HBO Max, Hulu says to manage it through HBO Max.

What happens after you cancel

  • You keep access to Hulu or your bundle until the end of your current billing cycle and are not charged again. Free trials keep access until the trial ends, except Hulu + Live TV trials, which end as soon as you cancel.
  • The Disney+, ESPN, and Hulu Subscriber Agreement says that, except where the law requires, there are no refunds or credits for partly used billing periods. Hulu may give refunds or credits case by case.
  • The agreement says to cancel before 11:59 p.m. Eastern time on the day before your subscription term ends to avoid the next charge.
  • If Hulu does issue a refund, it appears in Billing History on your Account page and can take 7 to 10 business days to reach your bank statement. Our guide on how to track a refund covers what to check.
  • You can sign up again later with the same login.

Pause or change your plan instead

To pause, go to your Account page, find Your Subscription and click Pause next to Pause Your Subscription. Set a duration of up to 12 weeks and click Submit. The pause starts on the first day of your next billing cycle.

  • Hulu resumes automatically when the pause ends and charges your payment method. If you cancel while paused, you are not charged.
  • Pausing is not available for annual subscribers, subscribers billed by a third party other than Amazon and Roku, accounts on hold, gift cards or promotions.
  • To end a pause early, select Restart Subscription next to Pause Scheduled, then Cancel Pause. Hulu bills you right away.
  • To cut cost without leaving, use Manage Plan or Manage Add-ons on your Account page, then Review Changes. Hulu says changes made mid-cycle are prorated.

Confirm the cancellation

  1. Keep the confirmation email Hulu sends to the address on file.
  2. Under Overview on your Account page, a status saying your subscription is about to cancel, with a date, means it worked. Your Next Charge means the account is still active.
  3. If the page asks you to renew your Hulu subscription, Hulu says that account was fully canceled. A charge that continues may come from another Hulu account.
  4. Check your statement after your next billing date. If a Hulu charge still appears, our guide to unexpected and duplicate charges covers what to ask.

Check for other streaming charges

Hulu often shares a statement with other streaming charges, especially when a bundle is involved. Our guide to finding all your subscriptions covers every place to look, and the Money Leak Finder gives a rough yearly cost of charges you no longer use. Where Compass+ fits

The Compass assistant runs inside Gerald with a read-only bank connection, so it can see recurring charges such as streaming subscriptions in your transactions. It cannot cancel subscriptions, sign in to your accounts or stop charges for you.

Standalone Compass+ is waitlist-only while broader money-finding features are being built.

Frequently asked questions

Hulu cancellation FAQ

Can I cancel Hulu at any time?

Yes. Hulu says subscribers it bills can cancel at any time. You keep access until the end of your current billing cycle and are not charged again. A Hulu + Live TV free trial ends as soon as you cancel.

Will Hulu refund the rest of my month?

Usually not. The Disney+, ESPN, and Hulu Subscriber Agreement says that, except where the law requires, there are no refunds or credits for partly used billing periods, though Hulu may give one case by case.

Why is Hulu still charging me after I cancelled?

Check the status under Overview on your Account page. Your Next Charge means the account is still active. If the page asks you to renew, Hulu says that account was fully canceled, so the charge may come from another Hulu account or a partner that bills you.

How do I cancel Hulu if Roku bills me?

Hulu says Roku-billed subscribers can cancel on Hulu.com. Roku says that even when it processes the charge, Hulu manages the subscription, so cancel with Hulu rather than in your Roku account.

Can I pause Hulu instead of cancelling?

Often, yes, for up to 12 weeks from your Account page. Pausing is not available for annual subscribers, most third-party billing (Amazon and Roku are exceptions), accounts on hold, gift cards or promotions.

If I cancel my Disney+ bundle, will Hulu stop charging me?

Not always. Hulu says that if you had a separate Hulu, ESPN+ or third-party billed subscription before the bundle, it continues at the then-current price when you cancel the bundle, unless you cancel it separately.
