Ways to cancel Netflix
Netflix Help Center, checked Oct. 16, 2026
Quick answer
Go to the Manage your membership page on Netflix, sign in if asked, select Cancel and then Finish Cancellation. Netflix emails a confirmation to the address on the account. You can keep watching until the end of the billing period, and Netflix's terms say there are no refunds or credits for partly used periods. If you don't see a cancel option, you pay through a partner such as Apple or your phone or internet provider, and you cancel there.
How to cancel Netflix in your account
- Go to the Manage your membership page on Netflix. Sign in first if asked.
- Select Cancel.
- Under Cancel, select Finish Cancellation.
- Look for the confirmation email Netflix sends to the address on the account.
Netflix says this is the only way to end a membership it bills directly. Signing out of your account or deleting the Netflix app does not cancel it.
If you don't see a cancel option
Netflix says a missing cancel option means a payment partner bills you. Go to your Account page and look under Membership. You will see either a link that walks you through cancelling, or instructions to contact the partner.
- Apple: Netflix says Apple billing is no longer available for most new or rejoining members, but some members still pay this way. Cancel through Apple in Settings, then your name, then Subscriptions. Netflix says the account then goes on hold for 30 days before it fully cancels, and that it may renew if you cancel less than 24 hours before the renewal date.
- Switched away from Apple: Netflix says that if you moved from Apple billing to another payment method or a package since Oct. 25, 2021, you must also cancel through Apple to avoid more Apple charges.
- Google Play: if the charge comes from Google Play, cancel in the Play app under subscriptions. Google says uninstalling the app does not cancel.
- T-Mobile: Netflix says to contact T-Mobile customer support to cancel a T-Mobile package or the Netflix subscription on it.
- Xfinity: Netflix says it cannot refund accounts billed through a third party, so contact Xfinity about the bill.
- Roku: if the charge says Roku, check my.roku.com/subscriptions. Our Roku subscriptions guide explains which services Roku bills.
What happens after you cancel
- You are not charged again unless you restart, and you can keep watching until the end of the billing period.
- Netflix's Terms of Use say payments are nonrefundable, with no refunds or credits for partly used periods. Netflix can choose to give credits, but it does not have to.
- If your account is on hold for a failed payment when you cancel, Netflix says it cancels right away.
- If you have a gift card or promotional balance, you can keep watching until it runs out.
- Netflix keeps your viewing activity, recommendations, ratings, account details and gameplay history for 24 months in case you restart.
Pause Netflix instead
To take a break, go to the Cancel Membership page and select Pause for 1 Month. You keep watching until your next billing date. On that date you are not charged and the membership pauses for 1 month, then you are charged your plan price again.
- A week before the pause ends, you can extend it for another month, up to 3 months in total.
- Pausing is not available on the Basic plan or for some payment methods, such as Direct Debit, gift cards and some partner payments.
- While paused, you cannot stream or download, but you can browse and add to My List.
- You can unpause early from your Account page. Netflix charges you right away and moves your billing date.
Switching to a package that includes Netflix
If a phone, TV or internet package now includes Netflix, Netflix says you do not need to cancel your account. Link the existing account to the package instead, and Netflix stops billing your payment method once it is linked. If Apple billed you before, Netflix says to cancel through Apple as well.
Confirm the cancellation and lock the account
- Keep the confirmation email Netflix sends.
- If you pay Netflix directly, open your Payment History page to see past charges and your billing date. If a third party bills you, sign in to that provider's account to see the billing history.
- Change your password and tick Sign out of all devices. Netflix recommends this so no one in your household can restart the account without you.
- Check your card or bank statement after your next billing date. If a Netflix charge still appears, our guide to unexpected and duplicate charges covers what to ask.
Check for other streaming charges
Netflix is rarely the only streaming charge on a statement. Our guide to finding all your subscriptions covers every place to look, and the Money Leak Finder gives a rough yearly cost of charges you no longer use. For more provider steps, see the subscription cancellation guide.

Where Compass+ fits

Frequently asked questions
Netflix cancellation FAQ
Does deleting the Netflix app cancel my membership?
No. Netflix says signing out or deleting the app does not cancel your account. Cancel on the Manage your membership page, or with your payment partner if Netflix bills through one.
Will Netflix refund the rest of my month?
No. Netflix's Terms of Use say payments are nonrefundable and there are no refunds or credits for partly used periods. You can keep watching until the end of the billing period.
Why can't I find the cancel button on Netflix?
You probably pay through a partner such as Apple, a phone company or an internet provider. Netflix says to check the Membership section of your Account page for a cancellation link or instructions to contact the partner.
Can I pause Netflix instead of cancelling?
Often, yes. Netflix lets you pause for 1 month at a time, up to 3 months in total. Pausing is not available on the Basic plan or with some payment methods, such as Direct Debit, gift cards and some partner payments.
How do I know my Netflix cancellation worked?
Netflix sends a confirmation email to the address on the account. If you pay Netflix directly, you can also check your Payment History page, then watch your next statement for any new charge.
Does Netflix keep my profiles after I cancel?
Netflix says it keeps your viewing activity, recommendations, ratings, account details and gameplay history for 24 months after your account closes, so they return if you restart within that time.
