Ways to cancel an Adobe plan

Quick answer
Sign in to your Adobe account, open Plans and payment, select Manage plan for the plan you want to end and select Cancel your plan. Pick a reason, review the details and select Confirm cancellation. If you cancel within 14 days of your initial order, Adobe's US terms give you a full refund. After 14 days, an annual plan billed monthly carries a lump-sum fee of 50% of the remaining contract, while monthly and prepaid annual payments are non-refundable. If you subscribed through Apple, Google or a reseller, cancel with them instead.
How to cancel an Adobe plan online
These steps cover Creative Cloud, Acrobat and other plans you bought directly from Adobe. Adobe's US subscription terms cover Creative Cloud, Document Cloud, Firefly and Acrobat plans.
- Sign in to your Adobe account.
- In the Plans and payment window, select Manage plan for the plan you want to cancel.
- Select Cancel your plan.
- Check your plan details, then select Continue to cancel.
- Select the reason for cancelling, then select Continue.
- Review the cancellation details, then select Confirm cancellation.
- Check your email for a confirmation from Adobe, or check the cancellation on your account page.
If you have more than one Adobe plan, Adobe says each one must be cancelled separately. Cancelling one plan does not cancel the others. You also cannot cancel while Adobe is processing a payment or if there is a payment problem, so wait 24 hours and try again.
Cancel within 14 days for a full refund
Adobe's US terms say that if you cancel within 14 days of your initial order, you are fully refunded. This applies to month-to-month plans, annual plans billed monthly and prepaid annual plans for individuals. After day 14, what you pay depends on your plan type.
To find your plan type, Adobe says to check the plan card in your account. Adobe's help page sorts plans into three types.
- On a month-to-month plan, your payment is non-refundable after 14 days and service continues until the end of that month's billing period.
- On an annual plan billed monthly, a cancellation fee applies after 14 days. See the next section.
- On a prepaid annual plan, your payment is non-refundable after 14 days and service continues until the end of your contracted term.
The early termination fee on annual plans billed monthly
An annual plan billed monthly is a one-year contract paid in monthly installments. Adobe's US terms say that if you cancel after 14 days, you are charged a lump sum of 50% of your remaining contract obligation, and your service continues until the end of that month's billing period.
- Adobe's example is cancelling in the ninth month, where you pay 50% of the fee for the three remaining months.
- For customers in California, Adobe's terms set the lump sum at 30% of your annual commitment instead.
- Adobe says the fee applies because the yearly plan comes with a significant discount.
- For automatically renewing customers in the US, Adobe's terms say an annual plan billed monthly renews on a monthly basis after the first year, until you cancel.
Your exact fee depends on your plan rate and how many months are left. Adobe shows the cancellation details before you select Confirm cancellation, so read that screen before you finish.
Prepaid annual plans and free trials
A prepaid annual plan is charged in one lump sum. Adobe's terms say it renews automatically on your annual renewal date until you cancel, at the then-current rate. Adobe also says it may change the rate each renewal term and will notify you with the option to cancel.
If you are on a free trial, Adobe's terms say your payment method is not charged if you cancel before the trial ends. When the trial ends, your subscription begins and Adobe charges the rate stated when you signed up. Our guide to avoiding free trial charges covers how to track end dates.
- Cancel a prepaid annual plan within 14 days of your initial order and you get a full refund.
- Cancel a prepaid annual plan after 14 days and there is no refund, but service continues until the end of the contracted term.
- To end a free trial, cancel in your Adobe account or through Adobe Customer Support before the trial ends.
Plans bought through Apple, Google, Microsoft or a reseller
Adobe says you can cancel in your Adobe account only if you bought the plan from Adobe. For subscriptions bought through third-party providers such as Apple, Google or Microsoft, follow that provider's cancellation process.
- For Apple, on an iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, tap the subscription and tap Cancel Subscription. Apple says that if there is no Cancel button or you see an expiration message in red text, the subscription is already cancelled. Our guide to cancelling subscriptions on iPhone has more detail.
- For Google Play, on your Android device, go to subscriptions in Google Play, select the subscription, tap Cancel subscription and follow the instructions. Google says uninstalling the app does not cancel the subscription.
- Apple says to cancel a trial subscription at least 24 hours before the trial ends if you do not want it to renew.
- For resellers, Adobe's terms say customers who bought indirectly through a reseller should ask the reseller for its terms.
What happens after you cancel
- Adobe says access to paid apps and services continues until the end of your current billing period.
- Your Adobe account stays active, and you keep free membership benefits.
- Your cloud storage drops to 5 GB. If you are over the limit, you have 30 days to reduce what you store before you could lose access to some or all of your cloud files. Files saved on your computer stay available.
- Adobe keeps your original Lightroom images for one year after your membership lapses, so you can still download them.
- Any remaining generative credits that came with your subscription expire when you cancel.
- If you change your mind within the billing period, you can reactivate the plan from your Adobe account.
Adobe says a charge that appears after you cancel is usually the final charge for your current billing period. Check the cancellation details and your next statement before assuming it is an error.
