How to cancel a ChatGPT subscription

Where to cancel depends on how you pay

• If you subscribed on chatgpt.com, cancel in your ChatGPT account.
• If you subscribed through the Apple App Store, cancel in your Apple subscriptions.
• If you subscribed through Google Play, cancel in your Google Play subscriptions.
• If you have a self-service ChatGPT Business plan, cancel in your workspace billing settings. Enterprise and Edu plans are not covered by these steps.

Uninstalling the ChatGPT app does not cancel your subscription. If you only want to stop future charges, OpenAI says you do not need to delete your account.

Cancel a subscription bought on chatgpt.com

1. Sign in to ChatGPT.
2. Open your account menu and select Settings.
3. Select Billing.
4. Under Cancel plan, select Cancel.

Cancel through the Apple App Store

1. Open Settings.
2. Select your name.
3. Select Subscriptions.
4. Select ChatGPT.
5. Select Cancel Subscription, then confirm.

If Cancel Subscription is not available and an expiration date is shown, the subscription may already be cancelled. Apple's support page also covers cancelling on a Mac, a Windows PC or the web.

Cancel through Google Play

1. In the Google Play Store app, open Subscriptions.
2. Select ChatGPT.
3. Select Cancel subscription and follow the instructions to confirm.
4. On a computer, open your Google Play subscriptions, select Manage next to ChatGPT, select Cancel subscription, pick a reason if prompted and select Continue.

When your access ends

• OpenAI says to cancel at least 24 hours before your next billing date to avoid being charged for the next period.
• After an ordinary cancellation, paid features stay available until the end of the current billing period.
• If OpenAI grants a refund, access covered by the refunded charge normally ends earlier, subject to applicable law.
• Check your subscription status on the platform that billed you to confirm it is no longer set to renew.

OpenAI's refund policy

• For an unused individual plan, a discretionary refund may be available if you contact OpenAI within seven days of the charge. The request must be about your current billing period, and OpenAI checks for repeat refunds, substantial use, active payment disputes and abuse.
• OpenAI says there is no automatic prorated refund after seven days. An accidental purchase, forgetting to cancel, dissatisfaction or a plan change does not qualify by itself.
• For web and Google Play purchases, sign in to the charged account, open the OpenAI Help Center chat and request a refund. OpenAI says approved web refunds are processed within 5 to 7 business days and Google Play refunds within 10 business days. Your bank may take longer to show the money.
• For Apple purchases, request the refund from Apple. Apple says to sign in to reportaproblem.apple.com, choose Request a refund, pick a reason and select the subscription. See our Apple refund guide.
• If you live in the EU, UK or Turkey, OpenAI says you are eligible for a prorated refund if you cancel within 14 days of purchase.

OpenAI says it cannot issue a separate refund while a payment dispute with your bank is active, or after the money has already come back to you through that dispute.

If you can't sign in, or want to delete your account

• The last four digits of the payment card.
• The card expiration date.
• The billing address for the subscription.
• The date of the most recent charge.

Never send your full card number. Deleting your ChatGPT account cancels a subscription billed directly by ChatGPT, but not an Apple App Store subscription, so cancel any store subscription first. For Apple or Google billing you cannot reach, contact Apple or Google for account recovery.
