Walmart price match
Walmart's policy, checked Oct. 16, 2026
Quick answer
Walmart stores will match the price of the identical item advertised on Walmart.com, but you have to tell the associate at checkout. Walmart.com does not price match at all: not its own later price drops, not competitors and not Walmart stores. Walmart does not match other retailers in stores either. If the price drops after you buy, your option is Walmart's return policy, which gives most items 90 days.
What Walmart stores will match
For a purchase in a Walmart U.S. store, Walmart matches the price of the identical item advertised on Walmart.com. Its conditions:
- You tell the associate about the Walmart.com price at the time of checkout.
- The item is identical (size, model, quantity, brand, color and so on) and is in stock and available to buy on Walmart.com when you ask.
- Some matches need a supervisor's approval, which can slow down checkout.
- Walmart can limit quantities to one per customer, per item, per day.
- Matches on Walmart.com prices are not available in Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico.
Walmart says the store manager on duty has the final decision on any price match.
What Walmart stores will not match
- Competitors' online or in-store prices.
- Walmart.com special-event prices, including clearance, Rollback, Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals, and other limited-time promotions.
- Prices from Walmart Marketplace retailers or third-party sellers.
- Bundles, instant rebates, mail-in offers, financing offers, gift card offers, and percentage-off or buy-one-get-one ads without a stated price.
- Prices from other Walmart or Neighborhood Market stores. Walmart says store prices can differ because each store manages its own inventory.
Walmart.com does not price match
Walmart.com's policy rules out price matching entirely. It does not match items on its own website, competitors' prices, items you bought on Walmart.com that have since dropped in price, Marketplace or third-party seller prices, or prices in Walmart stores.
What to do when a Walmart price drops after you buy
- Check whether the item is still returnable. Walmart's return policy gives most items 90 days with a store receipt or Walmart.com order number, and some categories, including major appliances, have much shorter windows.
- Confirm the lower price is from Walmart itself, not a Marketplace seller, and that it is still live.
- Start the return in the Walmart app or at Walmart.com, or take the item to a store, then buy it again at the lower price.
- Watch for the refund. Walmart refunds returns with a receipt or order number to the original form of payment. Our guide to tracking a refund shows what to check.

Spotting a price drop after you buy is one of the things Compass+ is being built to do. That feature is not live yet, and Compass+ will not request adjustments or move money for you.
Today, the Compass assistant runs inside Gerald with a read-only bank connection. It can see your purchases in your transactions, but it does not track product prices.
