Quick answer

On the Audible website, select your name, then Membership details, select Cancel membership and select Confirm cancellation. Audible emails a confirmation. If Apple or Google bills you, cancel in the App Store or Google Play Store instead, because those memberships cannot be cancelled on the Audible site. Deleting the app does not cancel anything. Use your credits first, since Audible says unused credits are lost when your final billing cycle ends. Titles you bought stay in your Library, and Audible does not refund fees already paid.

Check who bills you first

Audible says to confirm how your membership is billed before you cancel. You can check your billing method and your next billing date in Membership details on the Audible site.

  • If Audible bills you, cancel on the Audible website.
  • If Apple bills you through the App Store, cancel in the App Store or your iPhone or iPad settings.
  • If Google bills you through the Google Play Store, cancel in Google Play.

Deleting the Audible app does not cancel your membership. If you do not see a cancel option, Audible says to check that you are signed in to the account with the active membership, or try signing in with a different email address.

How to cancel Audible on the website

On a computer, Audible lists these steps.

  1. Go to the Audible site and select your name on the top navigation.
  2. Select Membership details.
  3. Select the Cancel membership link.
  4. Select Confirm cancellation.

On a phone browser, select the main menu, then your name, then Membership details, Cancel membership and Confirm cancellation. After you cancel, Audible sends an email confirmation and your status on the Membership details page changes.

Cancel Audible through Apple or Google Play

Audible says memberships billed through Apple or Google cannot be cancelled on the Audible site. For the App Store, Audible lists these steps.

  1. Open the App Store or your iPhone or iPad Settings.
  2. Select your name, then Subscriptions.
  3. Select Audible, then Cancel Subscription.
  4. Select Confirm.
  • If you do not see Cancel Subscription, Audible says your membership is already cancelled and will not renew. Apple says you might need to scroll down to find the button. Our guide to cancelling subscriptions on iPhone has more detail.
  • For Google Play, open the Google Play Store, select your profile icon, select Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Select Audible, select Cancel subscription, choose a reason and select Continue.
  • Google says uninstalling an app does not cancel its subscription.
  • If you cancel an App Store or Google Play membership and want to sign up again through Audible, Audible says to wait until the cancellation is complete first.

Use your credits before you cancel

Audible Premium members get credits. Audible says that at the end of your final billing cycle, you lose all unused credits and member benefits, including exclusive discounts and the included catalog. Its conditions of use say credits have no cash value and are non-refundable.

  • Check your credit balance in Membership details.
  • Any title you get with a credit is yours to keep, even after you cancel.
  • Credits expire 12 months after their issue date, or when you cancel, whichever comes first.
  • Credits received through an App Store or Google Play Store membership do not expire and stay in your account after cancellation.

What happens after you cancel

  • Audible's conditions of use say you will not receive a refund of any fees already paid.
  • You keep member benefits until the end of your final billing cycle. For App Store and Google Play memberships, Audible says you keep them for the time you have already paid for and are not charged again.
  • Titles you bought with a credit or a card stay in your Library. You can download them as many times as you want, and your Audible account stays active.
  • Titles from the included catalog are locked. Audible Standard members also lose access to past monthly selections. Rejoining unlocks them.
  • You can still buy titles at full price without a membership.

Pause Audible instead

If you only need a break, Audible lets eligible monthly members pause for a total of up to 90 days every 12 months. Pausing stops payments, and Premium members keep existing credits until their original expiration dates. Annual plans cannot be paused.

  • On the website, select your name, then Membership details, then Pause membership. Choose 30, 60 or 90 days and select Pause membership to confirm.
  • In the Audible app, go to your Profile, open the Membership tab, select Manage, then Pause membership, and choose 30, 60 or 90 days.
  • You can pause up to 3 times in a 12-month period, and only after 30 days of paid membership.
  • App Store pauses always last exactly 30 days and cannot be ended early. Google Play members can pause for 1, 2 or 3 months in the Audible app for Android.
  • While paused, you do not get new credits or included catalog access. Premium members can still use existing credits.

Cancelling an Audible free trial

Audible's conditions of use say trial members can cancel before the trial ends, through their account, to avoid moving to a paid membership. Our guide to avoiding free trial charges covers how to track end dates.

  • Premium trial members billed by Audible can pause the trial for 30 days instead. Audible says this extends the trial by 30 days.
  • Audible says pausing a trial is not available if the App Store or Google Play Store bills you.
  • Apple says to cancel a trial at least 24 hours before it ends if you do not want it to renew.
