Ways to cancel or stop Kindle Unlimited
Amazon Customer Service and Kindle+ Terms of Use, checked Nov. 2, 2026
Quick answer
Amazon now calls Kindle Unlimited Kindle+. If Amazon bills you, go to Kindle+ Central at amazon.com/kpcentral, sign in and select Cancel membership. If you signed up through Google Play, cancel in the Google Play Store under Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Your membership stays active until your next billing date, and then the books you borrowed are removed. Amazon does not refund fees already paid. If you only need a break, a monthly plan billed by Amazon can be paused for 1 month instead.
Kindle Unlimited is now called Kindle+
Amazon's help pages and its terms of use, last updated Oct. 21, 2026, now use the name Kindle+. Some page titles and links still say Kindle Unlimited. Amazon describes Kindle+ as a subscription for borrowing digital books, audiobooks, comics, manga and magazines, up to 20 titles at a time.
Where you cancel depends on how you signed up. Amazon's help pages cover two ways, through Amazon and through Google Play billing in the Kindle app for Android.
How to cancel Kindle Unlimited on Amazon
- Go to Kindle+ Central and sign in to your Amazon account.
- Select Cancel membership.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to finish.
Amazon's terms say you can also cancel by contacting Amazon customer service. If you cancel before your renewal date, you are not charged for the next subscription period.
Cancel Kindle Unlimited through Google Play
If you signed up in the Kindle app for Android using Google Play billing, cancel in Google Play. Make sure you are signed in to the Google account that has the subscription.
- Open the Google Play Store app on your Android device.
- Go to Payments & subscriptions.
- Select Subscriptions.
- Select the subscription, tap Cancel subscription and follow the instructions.
Google says uninstalling an app does not cancel its subscription. Amazon's terms say that if a third party bills you, you may need to contact that company to cancel or to ask for a refund under its own policies.
What happens to your borrowed books
- Amazon says your membership stays active until your next billing date.
- After that date passes, you lose access to content you checked out. Amazon's terms say the titles are removed from your account, devices and apps.
- Amazon's Kindle FAQ says you keep borrowed magazine issues until you return them, cancel your membership or the title leaves Kindle+.
- Titles in the Kindle+ catalog can change at any time, so a book you borrowed may leave the program even while you are a member.
Refunds and price changes
- Amazon's terms say you will not receive a refund of membership fees already paid when you cancel, and you keep your benefits until the end of your subscription period.
- There is no partial refund for unused months on a prepaid gift or bundle membership. Amazon offers gift subscriptions of 6, 12 or 24 months.
- If Amazon changes the membership fee, its terms say it notifies you first, and you can reject the change by cancelling before it takes effect at no additional cost.
- If Amazon ends your membership itself, its terms say you get a prorated refund for the days left, unless it ends the membership for breaking its terms.
Pause Kindle Unlimited instead
If you signed up through Amazon and pay monthly, Amazon lets you pause for 1 month instead of cancelling.
- The pause starts at the end of your billing cycle.
- Your subscription resumes automatically, or you can resume it at any time from Kindle+ Central.
- You cannot pause during a free trial or promotional period.
Cancelling a Kindle Unlimited free trial
Amazon says that at the end of a free trial you move automatically to a monthly paid plan. Its Kindle FAQ offers a 30-day free trial to people who have not tried Kindle+ before. The terms say trial members can choose at any time, through Kindle+ Central, not to continue to a paid membership. Our guide to avoiding free trial charges covers how to track end dates.
