1. Cancel online when your account allows it
Planet Fitness’s official customer-service result lists account login as one possible cancellation route. Sign in at PlanetFitness.com, open the membership section, and follow the cancellation prompts if they appear.
Not every membership or club necessarily offers the same online flow. If there is no cancellation option, do not assume deleting the app or removing a payment method cancels the contract. Move to the home-club process instead.
2. Cancel at your home club
Visiting the home club can be the most direct option when online cancellation is unavailable. Bring identification and any membership information you have. Ask for the effective cancellation date, whether another charge is scheduled, whether a buyout fee applies, and what confirmation you will receive.
Request a copy or photo of the completed cancellation form before leaving.
3. Send written notice
Planet Fitness also identifies written notice to the home club as a cancellation method. Confirm the correct mailing address and required information with the club before sending it.
Include the details the club needs
- Full name as it appears on the membership
- Membership number, if available
- Home-club location
- Phone number and email address
- A direct request to cancel
- Date and signature
Use tracked or certified mail when possible and keep a copy. Delivery proof shows when the club received the request; it does not replace the club’s cancellation confirmation.
Check your agreement before cancelling
Planet Fitness says memberships and terms vary by location. Its current membership page notes that plans may include a 12-month commitment and an annual fee. It also says a no-commitment membership may be cancelled without a fee, while ending a committed membership early may involve a buyout fee.
Your agreement—not a generic online guide—controls the details. Review it for:
- commitment end date
- required notice period
- next monthly billing date
- annual fee date
- buyout or early-termination terms
- special rights that may apply after a move, disability, or another qualifying event
If the language is unclear, ask the home club to identify the exact clause it is applying.
After you cancel
Save every confirmation and watch the account used for billing. If you are not sure what else renews from that account, find all your subscriptions across cards, app stores, and direct billing. A final charge may reflect notice timing or contract terms, so compare it with the effective cancellation date and agreement.
If a charge appears after the membership should have ended, contact the home club first with your cancellation proof. Ask for a written explanation and refund review. Do not treat blocking the payment method as a substitute for cancelling the membership; the underlying agreement may remain open.
