Quick answer
PlayStation Store lets you cancel a game, add-on or season pass within 14 days of purchase, as long as you have not started downloading or streaming it. Subscriptions such as PlayStation Plus can be refunded within 14 days of signing up, for the first payment only, and the refund may be reduced if you used the service. Request it from your Transaction History in Account Management by selecting the purchase and choosing Request Refund, or contact PlayStation Support. Refunds go to your original payment method where possible and may take 30 to 60 days.
The PlayStation Store 14-day rule
Under the PlayStation Store cancellation policy, you can cancel a game or game add-on within 14 days of purchase and get a refund, provided you have not started downloading or streaming it. Once you have started, it is not eligible unless it is faulty.
Your refund rights depend on what you bought, so the rules for in-game currency, pre-orders, bundles and subscriptions differ. PlayStation also says you may have extra rights under local law, and nothing in its policy limits them.
How to request a PlayStation refund
PlayStation says you may be able to request a refund for some purchases straight from your Transaction History:
- Sign in to Account Management on the PlayStation website.
- Select Transaction History and choose a date range. It shows the past two years by default.
- Select the transaction to see its details.
- Select Request Refund and follow the on-screen instructions.
If Request Refund is not available, contact PlayStation Support or use the online assistant on PlayStation's refund page. Have your Online ID, your sign-in email address and the name of the purchase ready.
In-game currency, season passes, bundles and pre-orders
These purchases have their own versions of the 14-day rule:
- In-game consumables, such as virtual currency, boosts and other items used up during play, bought in PlayStation Store outside the game are delivered the next time you launch it. You have up to 14 days to cancel, as long as you have not launched the game. Consumables bought during gameplay are delivered right away and cannot be cancelled unless faulty.
- Season passes can be cancelled within 14 days of purchase, unless you have started downloading or streaming any item included in the pass.
- Promotional bundles can be cancelled within 14 days of purchase if you have not started downloading or streaming any part of the bundle.
- Pre-orders paid more than 14 days before release can be cancelled any time before the release date. Pre-orders paid 14 days or less before release can be cancelled up to 14 days after payment. Either way, you must not have started downloading or preloading the main game, and any bonus content stops working if you cancel.
PlayStation warns that downloads happen automatically if Automatic Downloads is turned on in your system settings. Turn it off if you might want to cancel a pre-order.
PlayStation Plus and other subscription refunds
You can cancel a subscription such as PlayStation Plus and request a refund within 14 days of the initial transaction, even after you start using it. PlayStation's refund checklist says the request has to be for your first payment, not a recurring fee. A few details apply:
- If you have used the subscription, for example by playing online, downloading monthly games or using cloud storage, PlayStation may reduce the refund for the time you used.
- A reduced refund can show up as two entries in your transaction history, a refund of the full amount to your wallet and a charge for the service you received.
- A free trial counts toward the 14 days. If you take a 7-day trial and are charged when it ends, you have 7 days after the charge to cancel for a refund.
Turning off a subscription stops future payments, but PlayStation does not refund payments you already made. The subscription runs until the next payment date, then ends.
How to cancel PlayStation Plus
You can cancel PlayStation Plus and other subscriptions bought through PlayStation on the web, a PS5 or PS4 console, or the PlayStation App. Once you cancel, the subscription is deactivated from the next payment date. On the web:
- Sign in to Account Management.
- Select Subscription.
- Select Cancel below the subscription you want to cancel.
On a PS5, go to Settings, then Users and Accounts, Account, Payment and Subscriptions and Subscriptions, select the subscription and choose Cancel Subscription. If you change your mind before the payment date, select Reactivate Subscription.
What PlayStation Store won't refund
PlayStation's policy rules out refunds for these:
- Games, add-ons and season pass items you have started downloading or streaming, unless they are faulty.
- Wallet top-ups. Funds added to your PlayStation wallet cannot be cancelled or refunded.
- A purchased change of Online ID, unless faulty. You can switch back to a previous Online ID for free.
- PlayStation Store gift cards and voucher codes bought from other retailers. Contact the retailer that sold them.
Where PlayStation Store sells physical items such as consoles or controllers, its policy allows returns within 30 days of delivery if the item is in its original condition. A boxed game with a broken seal cannot be returned unless it is faulty.
Where your refund goes and how long it takes
PlayStation says you may receive your refund in 30 to 60 days. Where possible, it goes back to the payment method you used. If that is not possible, for example with purchases made using wallet fund vouchers, the money is credited to your PlayStation wallet instead.
If you were told a refund is coming and it has not arrived, check your wallet balance first, then contact your payment provider. If the refund was due to your wallet, contact PlayStation. Our guide to tracking a refund covers how to follow it on your statement.
Transaction History is also where PlayStation suggests looking into unfamiliar charges, and only the family manager can see family members' transaction history. If a charge on your statement does not appear there, our guide to a charge that should not be there covers what to ask your bank, and the Money Leak Finder gives a rough estimate of what forgotten charges cost you.
Where Compass+ fits
Today, the Compass assistant runs inside Gerald with a read-only bank connection. It can see the original PlayStation charge and, later, a refund credit to your bank or card in your transactions. A refund credited to your PlayStation wallet stays inside PlayStation.
It does not request refunds, cancel subscriptions or contact PlayStation Support for you. Standalone Compass+ is waitlist-only while broader money-finding features are being built.
