Chase monthly service fees
Chase Additional Banking Services and Fees, checked Oct. 26, 2026
Quick answer
Chase's monthly service fee is $15 for Chase Total Checking, $4.95 for Chase Secure Banking, $25 for Chase Premier Plus Checking and $35 for Chase Private Client Checking. Each drops to $0 in any statement period where you meet one waiver. For Total Checking, the simplest is usually $500 or more in qualifying electronic deposits, such as a direct-deposited paycheck, or a $1,500 balance at the start of every day. For Secure Banking, it is $250 in qualifying electronic deposits or an owner aged 17 through 24. New accounts get at least two statement periods without the fee.
How the Chase monthly service fee works
Most Chase personal checking accounts carry a Monthly Service Fee. Chase charges it in any monthly statement period where you don't meet at least one of that account's ways to avoid it. You only need to meet one.
New and converted accounts are not charged the fee for at least the first two statement periods. After that, it applies unless you meet a waiver each statement period.
The amounts below come from Chase's account fee pages and its Additional Banking Services and Fees document, marked effective June 14, 2026. Chase says product terms are subject to change, and fees can differ by location, so confirm them against your own account agreement.
Chase Total Checking: $15 or $0
Chase Total Checking is the account Chase calls its most popular. The $15 fee is waived if you have any one of these during the statement period:
- $500 or more in qualifying electronic deposits.
- A balance of $1,500 or more at the beginning of each day.
- A $5,000 or more average beginning day balance in this account, or combined with linked qualifying personal deposits or investments. Personal deposits include Chase First Checking, Chase Savings, CDs and certain Chase Retirement CDs or Retirement Money Market accounts.
- A link to a qualifying checking account: J.P. Morgan Private Client Checking Plus, J.P. Morgan Classic Checking, Chase Private Client Checking, Chase Sapphire Checking, Chase Premier Plus Checking, Chase Performance Business Checking or Chase Performance Business Checking with Interest. Personal accounts need a common owner.
The $1,500 option is a balance at the beginning of each day, so one low day in the statement period can miss it. The $5,000 option is an average of beginning day balances.
Chase Secure Banking: $4.95 or $0
Chase Secure Banking, which Chase's fee documents call Chase Secure Checking, has a $4.95 fee. Chase's fee page and fee schedule list three ways to get $0 in a statement period:
- $250 or more in qualifying electronic deposits.
- A link to a qualifying checking account: J.P. Morgan Private Client Checking Plus, J.P. Morgan Classic Checking, Chase Private Client Checking, Chase Sapphire Checking or Chase Premier Plus Checking, with a common owner.
- An account owner who is 17 through 24 years old.
Chase's checking comparison page lists only the deposit and age options for this account, so ask Chase to confirm the linked-account option applies to yours. Secure Banking has no overdraft fees because Chase's overdraft services are not available on it.
Chase Premier Plus Checking: $25 or $0
Chase Premier Plus Checking has a $25 fee, waived with any one of these during the statement period:
- A $15,000 or more average beginning day balance in this account, or combined with other qualifying personal deposits or investments. Personal deposits can include up to two more Chase Premier Plus, Total, Secure or College Checking accounts, plus Chase savings accounts, CDs and certain retirement CDs or money market accounts.
- A link to a qualifying checking account, such as Chase Private Client Checking or Chase Sapphire Checking.
- A link to a qualifying Chase first mortgage enrolled in automatic payments from your Chase account.
- An account owner who is a current servicemember or veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces with a qualifying military ID or other proof of service given to a Chase banker.
When linked to Premier Plus, up to two more personal Chase checking accounts and your personal Chase savings accounts have no Monthly Service Fee. Chase Sapphire Checking, Chase Private Client Checking and Chase Private Client Savings are excluded.
Chase Private Client Checking: $35 or $0
Chase Private Client Checking has a $35 fee. It is waived with a $150,000 or more average beginning day balance across this account and other qualifying personal deposits or investments, or by linking it to a qualifying checking account: J.P. Morgan Private Client Checking Plus, J.P. Morgan Classic Checking, Chase Private Client Checking or Chase Platinum Business Checking.
What counts as a qualifying electronic deposit
For Total Checking and Secure Banking, the deposit option is usually the easiest to hit if you get paid by direct deposit. Chase counts payments from your employer or a government agency, such as a paycheck, benefits or a tax refund, that arrive through:
- The ACH network, which most direct deposits use.
- Real Time Payment (RTP) or the FedNow Service.
- Third-party services that pay your debit card over the Visa or Mastercard network.
Zelle, cash, checks, wire transfers and interest payments do not count. Moving money in from a friend or your own account by Zelle won't waive the fee.
How to check your own account's fee
Your account's terms, not a general article, decide what you pay. To check yours:
- Look through your statements or transaction history for a Monthly Service Fee and the statement period it covers.
- Find your account on Chase's fee pages, such as Chase Total Checking fees, Chase Secure Checking fees or Chase Premier Plus Checking fees.
- Read the Deposit Account Agreement and Additional Banking Services and Fees, which Chase says are at chase.com/disclosures, in a branch or by request.
- If your account isn't listed, or the fee doesn't match, call Chase at 1-800-935-9935 and ask which waiver you missed and whether a different account would fit how you bank.
Monthly fees are only one bank charge to watch
A $15 fee charged every month adds up to $180 a year. It is worth checking alongside other bank fees. Chase Total Checking and Premier Plus can also charge a $34 Overdraft Fee, which our Chase overdraft fee guide explains, and Total Checking charges $3 per withdrawal at a non-Chase ATM in the U.S.
